Earth Spirit by Northern Pine Designs

Chart: This Northern Pine Designs chart pack is two pages of A3, double-sided, folded and stapled to produce an 8 page chart pack. The entire chart is displayed on page for reference, but each section is described in detail with stitch diagrams and floss directions on four separate pages.

Stitches: Pattern uses Bargello, Ray stitch, Straight stitch, Algerian eyelets, Rhodes stitch, cross stitch, Curved Bargello, Crescent stitch, Satin stitch, Butterfly stitch, Gobelin stitch and beading.

Materials: Kreinik #4 Very Fine Braid, Kreinik #8 Fine Braid, Watercolour cottons, ThreadworX stranded cottons, ThreadworX Perle #5 cottons, DMC stranded cottons, DMC #5 Perle cottons, Rainbow Gallery Neon Rays and Mill Hill beads. Stitched on 18ct “Sandstone” Mono Canvas.

Designer’s Notes: “The images of mountains, earth, trees, flowers and water all reflect the majesty of our earth around us. This is the sixth design in the “Elements” series.”

Why I was attracted to this design: I love charts that are a combination of colour and texture. Almost all of my canvas work charts have a high textural component. I love the whole “Elements” series by Northern Pine.

So why haven’t I stitched it? This chart was given as a gift earlier this year by JoanneP. It was part of a RAK group where we re-homed projects we were finished with, with the intention of restitching and then passing on the charts again. So when I am reunited with my stash and stretcher bars, this will be stitched and the chart passed on!

Where can you buy it? This chart can be purchased via your LNS or ONS for $11.00 (US). Alternatively, if you live in the US or Canada, you can buy this chart direct from Northern Pine Designs for $11.00 (CAN) or the whole kit for $48.00 (CAN).

Discussion questions: What would you do with this design once you had stitched it – it is a very textured piece – still frame it, or do something else with it?

Blue Bayou by Northern Pine Designs

Chart: This Northern Pine Designs chart pack is two pages of A3, double-sided, folded and stapled to produce an 8 page chart pack. The entire chart is listed one page for reference, and then each section is listed separately with detailed instructions over the following five pages.  The chart is described in step-by step detail with many diagrams and clear listings on floss usage.

Stitches: Pattern uses Waffle stitch, Square stitch, Double Cross, Smyrna Cross, Bargello, Jessica stitch, Rhodes stitch, Crescent stitch, Fan stitch.

Materials: Needle Necessities cottons (now ThreadworX), Kreinik #8 Fine Braid, Weeks Dye Works #8 Perle cottons, DMC stranded cottons, DMC #8 Perle cottons, Anchor #8 Perle cottons and Mill Hill Petite Glass beads. Stitched on 18ct “Leventeen Blue” Mono Canvas.

Designer’s Notes: “This is the third in the Ebb Tide series. Stitched with numerous shades of jades and blues, and touches of metallic.”

Why I was attracted to this design: I love charts that are a combination of colour and texture. Almost all of my canvas work charts have a high textural component. I love the whole “Ebb Tide” series by Northern Pine; they are true art pieces.

So why haven’t I stitched it? These canvas work pieces have so many flosses that they take a while to kit up. I think I actually have this ready or almost ready to start. (My stash is not with me to check unfortunately).  I may be only one thread away from starting this one.

Where can you buy it? This chart can be purchased via your LNS or ONS for $11.00 (US). Alternatively, if you live in the US or Canada, you can buy this chart direct from Northern Pine Designs for $11.00 (CAN) or the whole kit for $52.00 (CAN).

Discussion questions: Do you like the Abstract or Geometric canvas work designs?  or do you prefer your canvas work to be more picturesque or defined in structure?
