Cheaper than therapy by My Big Toe

Chart: This small My Big Toe chart is printed on A4/Letter sized heavy card stock. The chart is large, clear and easy to see. The chart is repeated three times, once each for the variations: Stitching is cheaper, Knitting is cheaper, Quilting is cheaper.

The chart pack contains the scissors charm and the blue & yellow beads used in the design.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitches, backstitch, beads and a charm.

Materials: Weeks Dye Works cottons. Stitched on Wichelt 32ct “Lambswool” Jobelan.

Designer’s Notes: Stitching is cheaper than therapy… but not if you do it right (includes bead/charm pack)

Why I was attracted to this design: Do I really need to answer this? I think this answer is self-evident for most of us :)  On a serious note, stitching really is a form of therapy for me; putting a needle through the fabric and watching the design grow calms and relaxes me. So as well as the humorous reference to stashing habits, this design does have a serious element for me :)

So why haven’t I stitched it? This is another design that is new to my stash. I bought it and the fat eighth of fabric and three skeins of floss while I was doing a small spot of shopping for the upcoming Chocolate Exchange on the Stitching Hangout group. I bought everything so I can stitch this up as soon as I get tired of the designs I’m already stitching.

Where can you buy it? This My Big Toe chart is still in print and can be easily bought through your LNS or ONS for $8.00 (US).

Discussion questions:  Given that the image with this design is a scissor and fob, would you stitch the “knitting is cheaper” or “quilting is cheaper” version for a knitter or quilter friend or would you go looking for a different pattern for them? Does this pattern scream “stitching” to you or do you think it works for knitting and quilting too?

Give me the Cookie by My Big Toe

Chart: This small My Big Toe chart is printed on A4/Letter sized heavy card stock. The chart is large, clear and easy to see. The Large cookie, two small cookies and chocolate drop can be buttons, or they can be stitched; your choice.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitches and buttons or partial cross stitches, backstitch and French Knots.

Materials: Gentle Arts Sampler Threads and Just Another Button Company. Stitched on Zweigart 32ct “Ivory” lugana.

Designer’s Notes: All cross stitches are stitched with two strands over two threads when working on evenweave or linen. Attach the adorable buttons as shown on the cover. Charted cookies and chocolate drops have been done as substitutes for the buttons. French Knots are to be done using one strand of Dark Chocolate.

Why I was attracted to this design: There are times when I really really need a cookie. I love snarky or sassy sayings.

So why haven’t I stitched it? As usual, as a result of indecision.  I haven’t decided on fabric or whether to stitch the cookies or use the buttons.  For a long, long time I avoided designs that relied on buttons as they seemed lazy. Yet these buttons are adorable.

Where can you buy it? This My Big Toe chart is still in print and can be easily bought through your LNS or ONS for $6.00 (US).

Discussion questions:  If you stitched this design, would you stitch the cookies, or use the buttons? I have to admit at this point that I can’t find a picture anywhere of anyone actually stitching the motifs. In all the online pictures I can find, the stitchers have used the buttons.
