Witch for a Night by Turquoise Graphics and Designs

Chart: This Turquoise Graphics & Designs chart is printed on one page of heavy cardstock in large clear easy to see and easy to differentiate symbols. TGD also provide on their website a Floss Card and Journal Page for you to print out and use for this design. Fabulous! I’ve not seen another designer offer this.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitch, fractional stitches, backstitch and straight stitch.

Materials: DMC stranded cotton and one Kreinik blending filament. Stitched on Wichelt 28ct “Star Sapphire ” Linen.

Designer’s Notes: “Let your inner witch rule for a night!”

Why I was attracted to this design: While this is a companion piece to Witch’s Brew, I actually bought this chart to stitch for a friend. She is of the Pagan persuasion and I swear she could have modeled for this design! So this design appeals both to my Gothic sensibilities and on a very personal note as I could well imagine that hat brim tipping up and seeing a very good friend’s face smiling back at me.

So why haven’t I stitched it? I’m ashamed to say I already have two pieces in the works for this friend. A large one for a significant birthday that I missed and a smaller one that was a replacement gift when I realised the larger one wasn’t going to be finished in time. Turned out I didn’t get the smaller one done either!  Gah! Starting a third would merely bury me in guilt and shame – far better to finish one of the ones I’ve already started I think.

Where can you buy it? Turquoise Graphics & Designs is very much in business and this chart is still in print.  You can buy this from your LNS or ONS for around $9.00 (US)

Discussion questions: Again this is mainly DMC with some Kreinik blending filament in the trousers and neckline. I’m tempted to add some gold in the hat brim and the steam curlicues. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Witch's Brew by Turquoise Graphics & Designs

Chart: The chart is printed on heavy cardstock in large clear easy to see and easy to differentiate symbols. It’s a small design so it fits quite neatly on a single Letter/A4 heavy paper or light card page.  I really like how the chart is laid out, the size and style of symbols used. If this is indicative of the company in general, Turquoise Graphics & Designs is getting more of my business. TGD also provide on their website a Floss Card and Journal Page for you to print out and use for this design. Fabulous! I’ve not seen another designer offer this.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitch, longstitch and beads. The pattern was designed for either counted cross stitch or needlepoint.

Materials: DMC stranded cotton, Kreinik blending filament and Mill Hill glass beads. Stitched on Wichelt 28ct “Ivory” Linen.

Designer’s Notes: “Is it love potion, or something more wicked? Whatever is brewing, you will enjoy stitching this decorative cauldron with its colorful contents!”

Why I was attracted to this design: Look at that photo – it’s a witch’s cauldron – it’s got bling! It appeals to my Gothic and my “oooh shiny” pleasure centres.

So why haven’t I stitched it? It doesn’t actually have as much bling as I anticipated!  The whole thing is stitched in plain old DMC on ivory! (Except for some metallic glints in the cauldron and a few scattered beads in the steam). I honestly expected a lot more bling from that photo.

Where can you buy it? TGD is very much in business and this chart is still in print.  You can purchase this from your LNS or ONS for around $8US.

Discussion questions: How do I bling this up?  (I hear my English Teacher turning in her grave for that sentence).  Do I turn all of the steam into beads?  Do I turn the Kreinik BF into Kreinik #4 Braid?  Do I stitch this on PTP Monster Mash?

Or do I just trust that the original will look as good as the phto that I fell in love with and leave it entirely alone?
