Celtic Mystic Labyrinth Square by Needlework Designs by CJ

Chart: This Needlework Designs by CJ chart is printed over four Letter/A4 pages. The design is composed of four shades of purple and black for the edging.  The four symbols are a filled square, a filled diamond, a filled circle and a tick.  The three filled symbols do look similar in that they are the same size and darkness so a little care is needed.  Each page chart page has a three-row overlap to help with design placement.  The chart pack also includes a one-page guide on petit point or one-over-one stitching.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitch only. It is designed to be stitched one-over-one.

Materials:  DMC stranded cottons and Six Strand Sweets cottons. Stitched one-over-one on Wichelt 28ct “White” linen.

Designer’s Notes: You may use any three shades of one colour selection to stitch this pattern. Options, shades of green or blue.

Why I was attracted to this design: The colours.  I love the subtle textures and changes of colours in this one. I love hand dyed threads and their subtle colour changes. I love the interplay between three complementary shades. I love geometric art and I love Celtic knotwork.

So why haven’t I stitched it? This one has been “lost” in my stash. I literally cannot remember when or where I acquired it or how long I have had it. I don’t have the eyesight to stitch this as one-over-one on 28ct now, but I’d be quite happy to stitch it as two-over-two on 32ct.  Of course that would double the floss requirements.

Anyone know where I could obtain at least two skeins each of Grape Slushy, Rummed Raisin and Violets Sugard by Six Strand Sweets these days?

Where can you buy it? Needlework Designs by CJ still has a website but it appears to be dead.  I could not find an ONS that lists this chart in their inventory.  I recommend searching a LNS with an older inventory or searching eBay.

Discussion questions: While I fell in love with this design because of the shades of blues and purples in the model, what colour shades would *you* stitch this design in?  What three shades would you use?

3 July 2012: Need to hunt down a source for Six Strand Sweets – eBay perhaps?
