Black Swan Designs - Generations: The Locket

Chart: This Black Swan chart uses small but easy to see and easy to distinguish symbols. The chart is on a double-sided A3 sheet of heavy stock. Personally I’d make a working copy and enlarge the symbols a touch. When working from a chart on a heavy cardstock chart like this, the symbols on the folds tend to rub and wear off over time as the chart is folded and unfolded through use. (Been there done that with other charts).

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitch, fractional stitches and backstitch. There are multiple colour legends for the hair colour for blonde, red and brunette so you can personalise this design.

Materials: DMC stranded cotton, DMC Metallic thread and Mill Hill beads. Stitched on 28ct Wichelt “Evergreen” Linen.

Designer’s Notes: Traditions enrich and define a family. Here, the birth of a baby girl is celebrated by the gift of a golden locket.

Why I was attracted to this design: I loved the Black Swan designs so much I collected every one I could get my hands on.

So why haven’t I stitched it? A baby sampler?  What was I thinking?  No this is one I doubt I will ever stitch up. Too saccharine for me.

This is another pattern I’m offering away free. Comment below and tell me why this chart calls to you and where I know you from.  If more than one person answers I’ll use the random number generator to select a winner. I’ll select from the comments in one week.

Where can you buy it? Your LNS can order this in for you via Needlework Showcase. According to the Black Swan site this chart should cost around $8US. But as I said above, comment below as I am giving this one away.

Discussion questions: Have you ever liked a designer enough that you have collected all of their charts without pausing to stop and really think if you are honestly going to stitch up every one of those charts?
