Got Gifts? by Michelle Ink Needleworks

Chart:  This Michelle Ink chart is printed over two pages of mottled pink Letter/A4 cardboard. The symbols are small but printed clearly and are easily discernible from one another so the size is not an issue.  There is no overlap to assist in lining up chart sections. The design itself s deceptively simple, so the chart is quite easy to follow.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitches only.

Materials: Thread Gatherer silks, Rainbow Gallery Petite Treasure Braid metallics and Mill Hill Magnifica beads. Stitched on Lakeside Linen 32ct “Vintage Peach Ice” Linen.

Designer’s Notes: “”Absence is overrated…Gifts make the heart grow fonder. Every discriminating woman’s sentiment !”

Why I was attracted to this design: I love the sassiness of this design.  It looks so feminine and saccharine with the pink fabric and the roses and it lures you in by promising to give the sappy “Absence makes the heart grows fonder” until you give it a closer look and see the sharp left turn in sentiment!  I love this kind of illusion or “subtlety” as it used to be known.  It’s the same reason I have Eye by M.C. Escher in my stash.

So why haven’t I stitched it?  I have had the chart and the fabric in my stash for ages by I haven’t yet acquired the threads.  As I have so many charts, I put all of the threads needed in a spreadsheet and as I see them on sale I buy them and then when I finally have all the threads i start stitching the piece. All the threads needed for this piece have not come up for sale at a time when I’ve been looking.

Where can you buy it? This can be bought via your LNS or directly from Stitching Pretty Presents for $8US.

Discussion questions: Do you like charts with Sassy Sayings? Or do you think charts like this are simply uncouth or even mean-spirited?
