The Looking Glass by My Big Toe

Chart: This My Big Toe chart is printed over four Letter/A4 light cardboard pages with a three row overlap.  The symbols are printed large, easy to see and easy to differentiate.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole Cross stitch only.

Materials: DMC stranded cotton and Dinky Dye silks. Stitched on Zweigart 32ct “Ivory” Lugana.

Designer’s Notes: “Our model was stitched with Dinky Dyes silks because of their sheen and depth of colour. There are many types of thread and an endless selection of colors, we encourage you to find thread and fabric choices to fit your style.”

Why I was attracted to this design: I love abstract designs, geometric designs, repeating patterns and I simply adore bold colours. This design feeds into all of those artistic aspirations.  If this design was painted or lino-cut instead of stitched, I would still frame it and hang it on the wall.

So why haven’t I stitched it?  This is a design I bought while I was in the midst of a strict stitching rotation of large designs. By the time a spot opened up in the rotation, m attention had been drawn to a different chart and this one disappeared into the stash.

Where can you buy it? My Big Toe charts are definitely still on print and The Looking Glass can be easily ordered by your LNS or ONS. You should pay around $12.00 (US) for this design.

Discussion questions: My Big Toe designed an earlier chart Masquerade, in a simpler style than Looking Glass.  Would you stitch either Masquerade or Looking Glass and what colours or threads would you use?

Project Status:
11 Apr 2012: Partially kitted – need to check my stash of 32ct Ivory fabric.
