Chart: This Cat’s Whiskers and Dinky-Dyes collaboration chart and instructions is printed on a double-sided, folded Letter/A4 sheet of paper. The design is so simple and so small that it only constitutes a small section on the front page. Also included is an alphabet chart to personalise the back of the bookmark, general cross-stitching guidelines and more than a page on the construction of the bookmark, including creating the pillow, making the twisted cord and tassel and diagrams on how to whipstitch each section together.  The chartpack also contains one skein of the limited edition Dinky-Dyes silk  used in the design.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole Cross stitch only.

Materials: Dinky-Dyes silk. Stitched on Zweigart 32ct “Gold/Raw” Linen.

Designer’s Notes: 2008 Nashville Market Exclusive Design.

Why I was attracted to this design: This chart pack was a recent gift from Sisu in memory of the passing of my longtime furry companion Trouble.  It’s not a design I had seen before and I really appreciate the sentiment and thoughtfulness of the gift.

So why haven’t I stitched it?  Trubs was a cat that lived with me for 17 years; for most of the latter years there was just the two of us.  I still miss her dreadfully, the cantankerous old soul she was. When I was given the chart, I wasn’t ready to stitch anything in her memory just yet. It was three months after her passing, but still too soon for me. I think now I’m ready to stitch this.

Where can you buy it? As The Cat’s Whiskers has closed down, and this design was a limited edition for the 2008 Nashville Market, it can no longer be obtained by your LNS or ONS.  However I would suggest checking with reputable LNS and ONS that stock older charts and you might find one that still has this chart pack in stock.  Otherwise try eBay.You should pay around $14.00 US for this chart.

Discussion questions: Have you stitched a memorial piece for a loved one (family member or pet).  Did you find you needed to give yourself time to grieve before starting the project? Or did you find stitching the project to assist in the grieving process.

Please note I am not equating a bookmark for my cat with a memorial piece you may have done for your grandmother …
