Puss in Patches by Tams Creations

Chart: This Tams Creations chart is printed over 12 Letter/A4 pages, with each page including a 2-row overlap. The symbols are printed large and easy to see and use. There is also a single page additional zoom of the centre section; always helpful when the very centre of the chart is a juncture between pages – more designers should include this.  Finally there is also a one page entire chart; the symbols are too small to work from, but it is useful for seeing how the individual sections fit together.  All in all, I like the way this chart is constructed.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole Cross Stitch only.  This design can be stitched one-over-one or two-over-two.

Materials: DMC stranded cotton including Variegated Colours. Stitched on 18ct “Beige/Tan” aida.

Designer’s Notes: Cat design with motifs using DMC Color Variation.

Why I was attracted to this design: I love illusions, especially those mosaic pictures where the whole photo is created from hundreds of smaller photos.  This design reminds me of those.

So why haven’t I stitched it?  Well this one is a bit of a cheat. It’s been languishing in my stash less than 12 hours.  It was sent to me as a gift by Kay this morning.  I have enough of the DMC to start the design, but I am completely nonplussed about a fabric choice.

Where can you buy it? This design is still in print and can be easily ordered by your LNS or ONS of choice. Or you can buy direct from Tams Creations. You should pay around $10.00 (US).

Discussion questions: OK I love this design! The base outline of the cat is DMC 938 Espresso Brown, so a very dark brown.  The white looking thread around the muzzle and other patches, is actually Variegated 4150 Desert Sand, so still warm beige, cream colours rather than stark white. Given the warm tones throughout the piece, what colour would you suggest to stitch it on?  I’m not enamoured of beige or tan, but similarly I’m not sure that a pale green or blue would work either. 18ct or 36ct is a bit too small for my eyes with the migraine, but 32ct might be doable.  I only need 16 x 17″ for 32ct so I might have something if I could just get sort out the right type of colour background to use. Advice please?
