A Cat's Life by Debbie Draper Designs

Chart: This Debbie Draper Designs chart is printed over two Letter/A4 pages with a five-row overlap. The design only goes nine rows into the second page, so another designer might have made the symbols smaller and fitted the design on one page.  Debbie Draper left the symbols large so the fractional symbols are easy to see, and with a five-row overlap, there’s no problems lining up the second page.  This is a monochrome design so there’s no concern with differentiating symbols.  The backstitching is easily discerned with a heavy black line.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole Cross stitch, fractional stitches and backstitch.

Materials: Carrie’s Creations cottons. Stitched on Lakeside Linen 32ct “Attic Lace” linen. The thread, 10 yards of Carrie’s Creations “Antique Slate” is included in the chart pack.

Designer’s Notes: None.

Why I was attracted to this design: Erm …. cats!  Really sometimes it’s just that simple, or I’m that simple, or something. Actually I won this at a Needlework Show Doorprize. Debbie asked which of her designs was our favourite and at the time, that one was – so that’s the one I won! Of course now she’s created the entire line of brightly coloured cats that have also stolen my heart.

So why haven’t I stitched it?  It’s only very recently that I have managed to get my paws on some Lakeside Linen fabric. Polstitches, Picture This Plus, R & R Reproductions yes but not Lakeside Linens.  In fact I was just given a piece of Attic Lace by Tracy of Ink Circles designs for Christmas last year and I’ve been dithering whether to use it for this project or one of Tracy’s own.  I think Tracy will understand if I use it for this.  Especially today.

Where can you buy it? As this is an older design, you may need to look around for a LNS or ONS to specially order it in for you. You should pay around $12.00 (US).

Discussion questions: Debbie Draper apparently died yesterday. She was only 56. Rest in peace.
