Beer Dragon by X’s & Oh’s

Copyright Joanne Gatenby, X’s & Oh’s, 2011.

Chart: This X’s & Oh’s  chart is print on the inside of a folded A4/Letter sized cardboard sheet. The symbols are printed quite large so the fractional stitches are quite easy to see.  The design has large swathes of single colour to offset the fractional stitches.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitches, partial cross stitch and blackwork.

Materials: DMC stranded cottons and Kreinik #4 Very Fine Braid metallic. Stitched on Wichelt 28ct “Antique White” Jobelan.

Designer’s Notes: None. Part of the Dragons with Drinks series.

Why I was attracted to this design: This is the latest design in the X’s & Oh’s Dragons with Drinks series. I have had the Wine Dragon (White) in my stash for years and I love the whole series.  I’d love to stitch the whole lot and hang them in the kitchen or dining area.

It is a simple design, but I like the marriage of mythological creatures and food or drink. It’s been a staple  of art images for years, but I don;t know why it appeals.  Any thoughts?

So why haven’t I stitched it? This is a new addition to my stash, it was on sale so it slipped into my cart while I was putting an order together for items to give out for soon for RAKs and birthdays gifts.

Where can you buy it? This small chart can be easily ordered through any LNS or ONS. Otherwise you can buy it direct from X’s & Oh’s website. Expect to pay around $5.00 (US) for this chart.

Discussion questions:  Which is your favourite design? Beer Dragon, Wine Dragon (white), Wine Dragon (Red), Margarita Dragon, Coffee Dragon, Tea Dragon or Milk Dragon? Conversely, which Dragon do you think should be added to the list?
