Dance of the Vernal Equinox by Whispered by the Wind

Chart: This Whispered by the Wind chart is printed over four A4 pages with a three-row overlap.  The chart is printed nice and large so even the quarter stitch symbols can be easily distinguished. There is little confetti stitching or backstitching in the design so, with the large symbols, the chart is very easy to follow.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitch, fractional stitches, backstitch and beads.

Materials: DMC stranded cotton, Kreinik Silk mori, Kreinik #4 Very Fine braid and Mill Hill beads. Stitched on Wichelt 28ct “Bay Leaf” linen.

Designer’s Notes: Part of the Seasonal Dance series: Dance of the Winter Solstice, Dance of the Autumnal Equinox, Dance of the Summer Solstice and Dance of the Total Eclipse.

Why I was attracted to this design: It’s rare for a design set to honour the equinoxes. I prefer these to the cutesy seasonal designs that proliferate the net these days. Maybe because these have a touch of Paganism, maybe because the design elements seem to harken back to medieval times.

So why haven’t I stitched it? I’ve been dithering whether to use the Wichelt “Bay Leaf” as called for or whether to use a mottled or variegated hand-dyed …

Where can you buy it? Although Mari has changed the type of charts she is designing through Whispered by the Wind, this older series is still in print and available to be specially ordered by your LNS or ONS. You should pay around $9.00 (US) for this chart.

Discussion questions: This design uses silks, metallics and beads so I feel it has an acceptable amount of bling. So do I use the Bay Leaf or look for a mottled/variegated hand dyed?
