Eloquent Christmas by ByGone Stitches

Chart: This ByGone Stitches chart is printed over four Sand-coloured Letter/A4 pages. Unfortunately there are no overlap rows to show how each page lines up. The symbols are printed quite large and are quite easy to see on the light yellow background. As there is only two symbols and they are used in discrete blocks (one for the floss and one for the beads), the pattern appears quite easy to follow.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole Cross stitch and beads.

Materials: Mill Hill Antique Glass Beads and DMC stranded cotton or Gloriana silks. Stitched on Picture This Plus 28ct “Crystal Relic” opalescent linen.  The floss list is for DMC 3813 Emerald Green Very Dark, but the model was stitched using Gloriana 016 Holiday Green.

Designer’s Notes: ByGone stitches is the “older Alter Ego” of Ruby Slipper Needlework Designs. Unlike her sister Ruby Slipper, who is a little, okay, a lot more wild and fun, ByGone Stitches first love is for antique and traditional needlework. Please enjoy this more traditional sentiment of the holidays with this Merry Christmas tree. (Ruby’s tree would have been on lime green fabric with hot pink threads).

Why I was attracted to this design: This is quite an elegant design!  The minimalism of the piece appeals, yet the opalescent fabric and the beading add enough bling to the project to keep me happy.  This is not a bland project. It is quite beautiful.

So why haven’t I stitched it?  I actually finally acquired the Gloriana threads for this chart in January this year. I had planned on stitching it closer to December.  I like to stitch seasonal designs during the season rather than having them ready to display before hand. I guess that says something about where my stitching priorities lay!  Unfortunately I’ve pinched the threads for another project, so I will have to wait until they are on sale to purchase some more.  The Black Friday sales might be just the ticket!

Where can you buy it? Gail Reinhardt passed away after a brief battle with cancer on 16 May 2012. ByGone Stitches and Ruby Slippers Designs “will continue under copyright and they will continue to be printed and sold through Stitching Pretty Presents! on behalf of family and friends” (from the Stitching Pretty Presents website).  This design can be easily ordered by your LNS or ONS of choice for around $8.00 (US).

Discussion questions: I did not know Gail had passed away. That makes four designers on less than two months. Such a sad time. Looking through both the ByGone Stitches and Ruby Slipper pages, which design is your favourite?

Project Status:
30 May 2012: Need to re-kit as I thieved the floss for another project.
