French Country Cat by JBW Designs

Chart: This JBW Designs chart is printed on the inside of a folded A5 cardboard sheet. The symbols used in this monochrome design are shown large and the chart is easy to follow. Three different colour schemes are given in red, black or blue.  The “Cat” wording is charted in both French and English.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitch only.

Materials: Gentle Arts Sampler Threads cotton. Stitched on 29ct “Natural” Glenshee linen.

Designer’s Notes: None. Part of the French Country series.

Why I was attracted to this design: You’ve seen all the cat designs coming through, you had to know this one was in here somewhere :) I love that the main cat motif is composed of smaller cats, the letter c, love hearts, ribbons and cat toys.

So why haven’t I stitched it? I have no idea what floss and fabric combo to stitch this in.  Serious, I have had this chart in my stash for a few years now with absolutely no inspiration on a colour combo.  None of the official ones strike a chord with me and none of the floss tosses I’ve tried have thrilled me either.  I thought of stitching it in multiple colours to mimic the markings of Trouble or Abby but that’s always seemed a little difficult as I’ve worried about giving too much prominence to one motif.

Where can you buy it? This JBW chart along with most of the French Country series, is still in print and available to order by your LNS and ONS. This small chart should cost you around $5.00 (US)

Discussion questions: Do you have an elusive pattern in your stash – the one that just refuses to come together for you?  Which is it?
