I'll make my own happy ending by Dragon Dreams

Chart: This Dragon Dreams chart is print on a double-sided Letter/A4 cardboard sheet. The chart is printed nice and large so the symbols are easy to see and easy to differentiate.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitches and backstitch.

Materials: DMC stranded cotton, Kreinik #4 Very Fine Braid metallics and Weeks Dye Works cottons. Stitched on Zweigart 28ct “Willow” Linen.

Designer’s Notes: In the past few years, I have watched some friends go through real heartaches, including one messy divorce.  I also want my two girls to know that they can make their own happy endings and have wonderful adventures with or without a prince at their side! 10% of the proceeds of this design are going to a wonderful crisis centre in our city called CrossRoads for Women so that they can continue to empower women and offer shelter to women and children when the fairy tale goes horribly wrong.

Why I was attracted to this design: I only recently discovered this design and bought it immediately with a small amount of other stashing. This is a philosophy I have stood by for many years, and to know that a percentage of the proceeds goes towards a women’s shelter is amazing.  I stayed in my marriage for years after I should have ended it because I was too scared to leave. I was given back my self-esteem and sense of purpose by a man who cared deeply for me. Many women do not have a support network to assist them in that process, or are in a physically more dangerous situation than I was. I’m glad to be doing something to help in a small way. This design also reminds me how far I’ve come along my own personal journey.

So why haven’t I stitched it? It only arrived a couple of days ago :)  Looking through the list of threads required, I think I may have them all on hand though. And I do have a piece of Mint linen, that would substitute for the Willow fabric.

Where can you buy it? This chart is in print and easily available through your LNS or ONS. You should pay around $5.00 (US) or £4.16 (UK)

Discussion questions:  In this chart, Dragon Dreams designer, Jennifer L. Aikman-Smith, hides a powerful message under a cute froggy design with a sassy-looking saying.  What other designs do you know of that do the same thing?
