Beloved Santa Claus by Passione Ricamo

Chart: This Passione Ricamo chart is the first of her new Little Wishes range, so unlike her usual charts, this is printed on normal Letter/A4 pages.  There is a separate chart for santa’s face if you wash to stitch it one over one.  The symbols are printed large and easy to see and easy to differentiate.  The chart is sold as a pdf so you can change the print size if you need to.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitches, partial cross stitch, backstitch, beads and treasures.

Materials: DMC stranded cotton, Rainbow Gallery Whisper, Rainbow Gallery Petite Braid, Mill Hill beads and Mill Hill Treasures. Stitched on Zweigart 25ct “Oatmeal” Floba.

Designer’s Notes: Little Wishes is a new-born sweet and tiny line, where the designs are so accurate and special like the Romantic Time line, but small and inexpensive, and perfect to stitch a rel treasure even if you have not a lot of time to devote to cross stitch. They are a tiny treasure because they are rich of iridescent colours, metallic threads, beads and the enchanting (sometimes) petit point. All the designs belong to my fantasy and I love them in a very special way …

Why I was attracted to this design: I rarely stitch normal Christmas designs especially those of the Jolly Red Fellow, mainly since becoming aware that the most common version I see of Santa Claus was invented by Coca Cola in the 1930s. This design though, harkens back to an older version of the Santa Claus myth, and has an elegance that I like.

So why haven’t I stitched it? I always seem to start stitching Christmas designs in mid-December on a whim and it’s a bit late to start kitting up complex designs at that point :)

Where can you buy it? This chart is Out of Print. A few years ago, Passione Ricamo shut down all her pdf charts as a result of too much piracy. After many requests by her fans, she has started to release a few charts via pdf again now, but these older charts are still out of print.

Discussion questions:  Do you stitch Santa Claus designs?  Do you have preferences on different sorts of Santa Clauses or is one as good as another?

26 Apr 2012: Still kitting it up, always kitting :)
