Rose Lights by Châtelaine

Chart: The package is 20 pages of materials listing, chart, alphabet and stitching directions and diagrams. Usually with Châtelaine charts I recommend ditching the paper chart and replacing it with a pdf from European Cross Stitch.  However in this case, the chart instructions are so clear and easy to follow and the chart itself so easy to read, that I have no issues with keeping and using this paper chart.  I’ve read through the instructions thoroughly and so far found no ambiguity or confusion in any of the instructions.  I wish all design instructions were this comprehensive and easy to follow!

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitch, fractional stitches, backstitch, Rhodes stitch, Algerian eyelet, Diamond eyelet, Satin stitch, Blackwork, beads and treasures.

Materials:Needle Necessities, Thread Gatherer Silk ‘n Colours, Rainbow Gallery Petite Treasure Braid, Anchor Marlitt, Crescent Colours, Weeks Dye Works, Eterna Silk mini twist, Vicki Clayton silk, Delica Beads, Mill Hill Treasures and Swarovski Bicone Crystals. Stitched on Zweigart 32ct “Raw” Linen.

Designer’s Notes: None.

Why I was attracted to this design: Oh I love Châtelaines. I was introduced to them back in 2004 when I started stitching again. unfortunately with these older designs, the cover photos look awful. It looks so much better in later photographs. I also Roses and Dragonflies.

So why haven’t I stitched it? To be perfectly honest, I have a lot of other Châtelaine designs in my stash that are higher up my priority list than this one. I also have at least three WIPs and four already kitted that I’m not stitching on. I could not justify kitting this one up too.

Where can you buy it? You can purchase the printed chart pack or the PDF of this chart from European Cross Stitch for $23.25 (US). I do find PDF files so versatile for these larger designs in terms of enlarging the stitch chart or viewing on a tablet or printing out chart segments at a size you choose. You can also purchase the full kit for this design at European Cross Sttich for $123.05 (US) or any part thereof for less (ie. kit minus fabric, or even just buy the bead pack).

Discussion questions:  The recommended fabric for this chart is raw or dirty linen.  I really dislike raw or dirty linen.  Any suggestions for a replacement colour?  Please look at the later photographs links before suggesting colours :)
