The Guardian by Patricia Allison

Chart:  This Patricia Allison Designs chart is printed over six pages. It is a complicated design comprising many fractional stitches, confetti stitching and lots of backstitching, but the design is worth it.  The symbols are small but are printed quite clearly and are easily discernible from one another.  It is for the complexity of this chart that I recommend stitching from a working copy.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitches, fractional stitches, half eyelet stitches, backstitch and beads.

Materials: DMC stranded cottons, DMC Perle #12, Kreinik blending filament, Kreinik #4 Very fine braid and Mill Hill Magnifica beads. Stitched on Zweigart 25ct “Light Blue” Lugana.

Designer’s Notes: A truly beautiful design of a peaceful garden and its watcher.

Why I was attracted to this design: Gargoyles, Dragons, Mythological beasts, Sumptuous garden, metallic threads. OK I have a love of Gargoyles.  And stone statues in gardens.  I am not sure I shall ever forgive Steven Moffat for creating the Weeping Angels :)

So why haven’t I stitched it?  I have had so much difficulty in stitching Teresa Wentzler’s The Castle that I haven’t allowed myself to start another design of similar genre and complexity for fear of a repeat performance of those issues. Also I feel I should just dig in and get that one done before trying to tackle any other similar designs.

Where can you buy it? This can be bought via your LNS or directly from Patricia Allison for $12US.

Discussion questions: Am I fooling myself with thinking that I can stitch these when I have had so much hassles with The Castle? or should I finally give up The Castle and write it off and just start something new like this design?

I’ve always planned on stitching this on Zweigart Vintage Blue Dynasty Linen but that has been discontinued.  What fabric would you recommend?
