The Unicorn Window by Dragon Fire Designs

Chart: This Dragon Fire Designs limited edition chart is print on the back side of the A4/Letter sized cardboard sheet. Although this design has many fractional stitches, the chart symbols are quite clear and easy to see.

Stitches: Whole cross stitches, fractional stitches, backstitch, Plaited Cross Stitch and Beads

Materials: DMC stranded cottons, Kreinik blending filament and Dinky Dyes silks. Stitched on Wichelt 28ct “Wheaten” French Country Linen.

Designer’s Notes: This is a Limited Edition design that is part of the Fantasy Faire 2005. There is only a 1000 copies of this chart and will available to shops (that bought at the Nashville Market) until we exhaust our supply or the end of the year 2005.  This design is reminiscent of the beautiful illuminations of the past.

Why I was attracted to this design: For Fantasy Faire ’05 Dinky Dyes created a specialty floss (#085 Fantasy Blues) and about a dozen (??) of the designers at the Faire produced special small limited edition chart that included this thread. Many of them also included the new (at that time) Kreinik Fantasy braid colours – the 5000’s. Loving Fantasy designs, I put a serious amount of time and research into hunting these down.

So why haven’t I stitched it? To be honest, this one really doesn’t call to me. I have it in the collection for the sake of completeness of the Fantasy Faire ’05 designs.  I’m not a fan of the natural/dirty linen look and I think so much more could have been done with this design. I’ve been tempted so many times to change it but asd per usual I get too anxious about what to change it to. I don’t think black fabric would work with the Pixie Dust metallic used iun the collar horn and hooves. But then what else would you use for a stained glass window?

Where can you buy it? Dragon Fire Designs seems to be out of business these days. Their website seems broken and I cannot find a distributor for their designs.  I suggest you try your LNS if they stock older charts, or try eBay as I did.

Discussion questions:  How would *you* alter this design?  Or would you stitch it as is?

10 June 2012: Confused on fabric, as usual.
