Washday Blues by Calico Crossroads

Chart: This Calico Crossroads chart is printed on one side of a double-sided A4 cardboard sheet. As it is a small design, the symbols are printed quite large while still fitting quite neatly on that page size. The chart could easily be stitched without the need for a working copy.

Stitches: Pattern uses whole cross stitches, fractional stitches and backstitch.

Materials: Stitched in DMC stranded cotton on Charles Craft 14ct White Aida.

Designer’s Notes: None.  This is part of the full-size of Kats by Kelly series. Each pattern is designed to fit into any standard 8 x 10 frame.

Why I was attracted to this design: I love all the Kats by Kelly adaptions. One of my goals is to collect and stitch all of these designs. The black cat reminds me so much of Hemingway.  The Washday Blues is so appropriate; after nearly two weeks of rain I had a lot of washing to do today.

So why haven’t I stitched it? This was mixed in with my charts, yet according to the sticker on the front, it appears this was once a kit. I suspect this might have been part of an eBay bulk buy. I have already stitched up Meowy Christmas a few years ago and I have a half-dozen or so kitted up ready to start so these that are merely in chart form, usually don’t get much of a look in.

Where can you buy it? All Kats by Kelly charts are out of print.  But this has been a recent development, so you may be able to find these in LNS that keep older stock. They also appear quite regularly on eBay.

Discussion questions: What chart or design would you stitch and hang in your laundry?
